Illinois has a wide variety of creatures that call our state, home. 60 species of mammals and 450 types of birds. That only makes up a small portion of the states animal life. There's reptiles, amphibians, fishes, and lots of gross insects. Summertime is the perfect time for these creatures to be out there looking for you.

You can come in contact with wild, and deadly animals throughout the state of Illinois. This list of locations in Illinois, you have to be very comfortable with because a large number of these deadly animals are lurking:

  • Driftless Area
  • Shawnee National Forest
  • Crab Orchard
  • Emiquon
  • Hackmatack
  • Meredosia

O.K., so what are these deadly animals in Illinois? Here are 6 to lookout for, they could kill you.

  • Timber Rattlesnake - 5 to 7 feet long, filled with venom. Found in Southern Illinois.
  • Brown Recluse Spider - The the USA this is most poisonous house spider species.
  • Black Widow Spider - Found in the Southern half of Illinois, will attack you out of defense.
  • Cougars - Here, kitty kitty. Um, no. They stalk their prey and kill. 
  • Striped Bark Scorpion - This is the only Scorpion in Illinois. Getting stung by one of these can lead to swelling, inflammation, and pain, lasting several days.
  • Massasauga - One of 4 Rattlesnakes you can find in Illinois. Hides in wooded areas and gets ya.

So stay safe this summer, avoid. Run and hide from these potentially deadly creatures.
