What Is The Most Hypnotizing Road In The Quad Cities
The other day while driving to Cedar Rapids from Davenport I started to daydream, at least I thought it was daydreaming, after a few minutes I for the life of me could hardly remember the last few minutes of driving. When I got to Cedar Rapids I looked up what happened and got a few answers.
Known as road hypnosis, Highway hypnosis, and white line fever, this weird phenomenon happens to many people. I was wondering if there was a road that it happened the most on in the Quad Cities.
What Is This Hypnosis
According to sources this actually isn't super dangerous,
An altered mental state in which a person can drive a car, truck, or other automobile great distances, responding to external events in the expected, safe, and correct manner with no recollection of having consciously done so. In this state, the driver's conscious mind is apparently fully focused elsewhere, while seemingly still processing the information needed to drive safely. Highway hypnosis is a manifestation of the common process of automaticity.
A simple definition is as follows:
driving in a trance-like state while gazing at a fixed point.
Fun fact, the concept was first described in a 1921 article that mentioned the phenomenon of "road hypnotism."
Has This Happened To You?
Many people have had this happen at least once, and it got me thinking, does this happen anywhere in the Quad Cities more than others? It would most likely be on a straight road with a limited number of stop lights though that isn't a requirement. Do you have a hypnotizing road in mind? Let us know on our app.
