Bring In The Patio Umbrella: Wind Advisory For The Quad Cities
Quad Cities Weather Update: Thursday, April 2, 2026
Things are getting a little intense out there today. We need to stay weather-aware because the Quad Cities are right in the thick of a messy spring system.
Wind Advisory
First things first: hold onto your hat. Both Iowa and Illinois are under a Wind Advisory starting at 1 PM and lasting until 7 PM tonight. We’re talking sustained south winds between 20–30 mph, but the gusts could scream up to 45 mph. That’s strong enough to knock down tree limbs and toss around your patio furniture, so if you haven't secured your outdoor stuff yet, now is the time.
Will It Be Warm or Cold Outside?
Temperature-wise, it’s going to feel warm with a high near 71°F, but that warmth is basically fuel for the storms. We’re expecting showers and thunderstorms to ramp up this afternoon.
Will There Be Tornadoes?
Now, let's talk about the big question: tornadoes. There is an "Enhanced Risk" (Level 3 of 5) for the Quad City area today. While the main threats are those damaging straight-line winds and some hail, the atmosphere has a lot of "spin" in it. This means a few tornadoes are definitely possible, especially along the warm front as it moves through.
What Is The Game Plan?
- Charge up: Make sure your phone and portable chargers are ready to go in case the wind knocks the power out.
- Watch the sky: If things get quiet and then suddenly very dark or "green," head to your safe spot.
- Stay inside: Between the 45 mph gusts and the lightning, today is a great day for a movie marathon indoors.
Stay safe and stay dry. I’m rooting for us to get through this with nothing more than a few blown-over trash cans.
