Maybe you're avoiding the I-74 bridge or maybe you’re running late to work and you take a chance this time.  Just when you can see the  first exit after crossing the I-74 bridge, someone in the left lane is zipping by traffic and jumps ahead of you.

It's maddening. But actually, motorists should use both lanes because it allows more cars on the bridge and reduces backups on the ramp and River Drive in Moline.

To keep traffic moving, each driver in the right lane should allow one car to merge ahead of them where the left lane ends. This is called a zipper merge and we need to get over our anger and make it happen. Just a friendly reminder. And don't forget to take some big deep breaths too.
