What would you do if someone tried to carjack your vehicle? Would you cave and give it to the thief? Or would you try and react? Yaknow, drive the car away. Or fight the thief off? One would be Davenport carjacking victim on Scott Street fought off their carjacker last night.

Officers responded to a carjacking in the 1200 block of Scott Street about 6:20PM CT yesterday.

According to the Quad City Times, Davenport Police say a suspect approached the victim's car and tried to steal it but the victim fought off the thief. The carjacker fled the confrontation in a dark colored SUV.  The victim suffered minor injuries in the altercation.

So should you fight or just give it up to a carjacker? According to  the ABC News article "How to Avoid, and Survive Being Carjacked" it's always better to just give the bad guys what they want. Getting between them and what they want won't always work out as well as it did for the guy last night. It might even be a deadly decision.

Other tips from the article to keep yourself from being carjacked are:

  • Avoid being set up for a carjacking. Sometimes thieves will tap your bumper or place $20 on your windshield to distract you and while you're dealing with money or the bumper tap, steal your car.
  • Park near parking garage exits and back into spaces. Also make sure where you park is well lit and as close to where you're going.
  • Don't be distracted by your phone while driving, idling or parking.
  • When taking cash out of an ATM, keep your car in drive so you can move quickly if necessary.

Drive safely. And hopefully neither of us will find ourselves in a situation where we'll find out how we would react in a carjacking.
