A Davenport man is facing felony drug charges after fleeing police and trying to hide from them in a garage.

William Fues, 33 of Davenport, is in custody at the Scott County Jail. According to our news partner, Local 4 News, Davenport Police found Fues walking around company vehicles on the property of Elite Electric located at 6110 Brady Street in Davenport just after 2:45 a.m. on Thursday.

Officers approached Fues to talk to him when Fues ran away after he was given verbal commands to stop. After fleeing police, Fues attempted to hide in a garage at a residence on the 6200 block of Fair Avenue.

Police detained Fues, and Local 4 News reports that when he was taken into custody, Fues gave a false name, date of birth and Social Security number. He gave false information because he has a warrant out of Mercer County, Illinois.

Local 4 News say that the police officer investigated the area where Fues ran. During the investigation, the officer found a pack of cigarettes with a bag containing a white powder about six inches from the cigarette pack, The officer also found Fues’s Iowa I.D. about three feet from the cigarette pack.

The white powder substance tested positive for cocaine, and the package weighed 1.5 grams.

Fues is still being held at the Scott County Jail. According to the Scott County Courthouse, Fues is being held on the following charges:

  • Giving false information to police - Misdemeanor
  • Interference with official acts - Misdemeanor
  • Carrying a dangerous weapon - Misdemeanor
  • Interstate detainer - Felony
  • Second-degree possession - Felony
  • Third-degree possession - Felony

Fues's total bond for all charges was set at $12,000.

Local 4 News reports that Fues has prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance in 2010 and as recently on August 31, 2020.
