It has been a strange year... another fun headline popped up the other week. We all now know about the radioactive frozen shrimp.

Some imported frozen raw shrimp products may be contaminated with Cesium-137, a radioactive isotope, the FDA warns. The products were processed by PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati (doing business as BMS Foods), an Indonesian company.

This also became a big meme on social media. Cheapism even reported,

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration just released a safety alert to avoid some frozen shrimp because it may be radioactive.

Thankfully stuff like this gets found. U.S. Customs and Border Protection test shipping containers in multiple ports all the time to find stuff like this.

Did Anyone in Illinois Eat the Radioactive Frozen Shrimp

So far, there’s no confirmed report that anyone in Illinois—or anywhere, for that matter, have consumed radioactive frozen shrimp. All indications point toward caution and prevention. In fact no one has found it in the fridge either.

All containers testing positive were denied entry into the country. Cheapism stated,

No shrimp that has tested positive for Cs-137 has entered the U.S. food supply, according to the FDA. However, you can never be too careful with these things, so the FDA has recommended that Walmart, the retailer of the affected frozen shrimp, recall a number of products.

As always stay safe and keep an eye out for shrimp that can change your dna... or keep an eye out for giant evil Radioactive shrimp walking around.
