In another absolutely tragic ending to what should've been a day of celebration, a man died from injuries he sustained at a gender reveal.

New York State Police was called to an explosion in Liberty, NY, where they found 28-year-old Christopher Pekny and his brother Michael Pekny, 27, had been building a device for a gender reveal at the time of the accident.

Michael reportedly suffered a shattered kneecap in the blast, but is expected to fully recover.

Christopher was killed by the blast. He was building the device to celebrate the birth of his first-born child.

“It has been two nights in a row of not being able to sleep, waiting, hoping to hear that this is all some crazy misunderstanding,” Peter Pekny, the oldest of the three brothers, told the Washington Post. “But we all know that’s not the reality here.”
