Think you have what it takes to be a part of the Quad City Rollers?  Then get to The Quad City Rollers Roller Derby Boot Camp.

This is a 7-week session that will cover all the basic skills of roller derby beginning Sunday, January 9th at 9:00 am at the Eldridge Community Center and Rollerskating Park. This boot camp will run alongside the Quad City Rollers practice that takes place every Sunday 9:00 am-12:00 pm and Wednesday 6:30-9:00 pm.

No skating experience is required.  Roller derby is for everybody. A lot of the all-star skaters on the Quad City Rollers started without knowing how to skate. The coaches will help you learn everything you need to know in a no-pressure fun environment.

To be a Quad City Roller you need to:

  • Be 18 years of age or older.
  • Have the ability to attend most practices which take place twice a week.  Bring the kid!  Practices are kid-friendly.
  • Be sure to wear the required gear. Loaner gear is available, but you will need to bring your own mouth guard and helmet at a minimum. Where to get gear?
    • Required Gear,  Skate Helmet, (No bike helmet allowed) Mouthguard, Knee pads (Loaner Gear Available), Elbow Pads (Loaner Gear Available), Wrist Guards (Loaner Gear Available), Quad Skates (Loaner Skates Available)
  • A cool nickname.  Something about being a badass that rhymes with your name.

INFO ON SPORT ROLLER

Roller derby is a roller-skating contact sport played by two teams of fifteen members. Roller derby is played by approximately 1,250 amateur leagues worldwide, mostly in the United States.

Gameplay consists of a series of short scrimmages (jams) in which both teams designate a jammer (who uniquely wears a star on the helmet) and four blockers to skate counter-clockwise around a track. The jammer scores points by lapping members of the opposing team. The teams attempt to hinder the opposing jammer while assisting their own jammer—in effect, playing both offense and defense simultaneously.

Quad Cities Live Music Venues That Aren't Live Music Venues Anymore

Nostalgia Alert!.

We've compiled a quick list (by no means comprehensive) of venues in the Quad Cities that are no longer music venues but to us will ALWAYS hold a special place were we saw some great shows and made some incredible memories.

To many of us the live music scene wasn't just a concert here & there. It was an every weekend affair. And it didn't matter if it was a touring band or your buddy's band. We were going to be there with a beer in hand and scream along with guitars that were way too loud in a room that was improperly treated acoustically and make some bad decisions.
