You could visit this beautiful Illinois park and not even know you're missing an enchanting little butterfly garden. It's a perfect summer road trip destination.

Very few people know about this beautiful little hidden space inside a much bigger park. It would be the perfect discovery for a summer day trip to the Chicago suburbs.

Let me tell you about a place I just discovered, thanks to Only In Your State. It is inside the largest park in Berwyn, Illinois.

Proksa Park - Berwyn Park District

Proksa Park is the largest park in Berwyn and it's probably how this butterfly garden is able to stay so hidden. Proksa Park is loocated at 3001 S Wisconsin Ave, in Berwyn.

A fantastic, well-maintained playground area for children to enjoy, plus multiple sports fields, including soccer, baseball, softball, and more. You'll find tennis courts and a skate park, too. There are paved walking paths winding through the park for walks or jogs, and several picnic areas.

Amongst all those amenities is the hidden gem.

TREE HUGGING: If You Want to Hug the Biggest Tree in IL Bring Several Friends

Butterfly gardens are generally designed to attract and support butterfly populations by providing the necessary plants and resources for their lifecycle stages. The monarch, the State Butterfly of Illinois, is one species you'll see throughout the gardens. These special gardens have a variety of native plants that serve as nectar sources for adult butterflies and host plants for their caterpillars. Proksa Park is a perfect habitat.
