Hy-Vee Expands Community Support with Free Kids Meals and Food Bank Donations
As food banks brace for an increase in families seeking assistance this season, Hy-Vee is stepping up to provide support across all of its store locations with free kids meals, low-cost dinner options, and food bank donation bundles.
Free Kids Meals Offered November 3–7
From Nov. 3 through Nov. 7, all Hy-Vee stores with hot food service will offer a free meal for children 12 and under between 4 and 7 p.m. The same meal will be available for adults for just $3, either for dine-in or carryout.
Here’s the menu lineup for the week:
- Monday, Nov. 3: Baked Potato with Pulled Pork
- Tuesday, Nov. 4: Spaghetti with Meat Sauce, Salad and Garlic Bread
- Wednesday, Nov. 5: Chicken and Noodles with Mashed Potatoes
- Thursday, Nov. 6: Chili and a Cinnamon Roll
- Friday, Nov. 7: Sesame or Orange Chicken Rice Bowl
(In locations without HyChi, the Friday meal will be Two Chicken Tenders, Mashed Potatoes and Corn.)
Hy-Vee will also share affordable meal ideas on its social media pages, featuring recipes that can be made for $3 or less per serving using items from its weekly ads.
Customers Can Donate to Local Food Pantries
Starting immediately, customers can help fight hunger by purchasing $5 and $10 food bank bundles at any Hy-Vee location. Each bag contains pantry staples like canned vegetables, pasta sauce, canned protein, and cereal—items most requested by food pantries.
All donated bundles will be delivered daily to local food banks to ensure supplies reach families in need quickly.
“We want to support the communities that support our stores, which is why we are doing everything we can to make sure no one goes hungry during these uncertain times,” said Anna Stoermer, Executive Vice President, Chief Merchandising & Retail Officer for Hy-Vee, Inc. “We are grateful for the suppliers and partners who have joined us to help feed families in need.”
Participating suppliers include Acadian Crossing Consumer Products, Dole, Pillsbury, ProHealth, StarKist Tuna, and SUNSET Mastronardi.
Hy-Vee Continues Its Commitment to Fighting Hunger
These efforts add to Hy-Vee’s ongoing hunger relief initiatives. The company recently donated $100,000 to Feeding America partner food banks to maintain inventory and support growing demand.
Hy-Vee also contributed $25,000 to DoorDash’s program that waives delivery and service fees for customers receiving food assistance, helping families stretch their budgets further.
Over the past year alone, Hy-Vee has provided more than $70 million in in-kind food donations to support families and community organizations across its region.
