*Although video from the incident just surfaced, it happened on March 5, 2021.

At approximately 1 p.m. on that Friday afternoon just over two years ago, Carroll, Iowa police officer Patrick McCarty stopped a vehicle. Dennis Guider Jr., who had an arrest warrant out in Illinois at the time, was in the passenger seat of the vehicle.

When Officer McCarty told Guider to step out, he instead pushed the woman who had been driving out the driver's door. Then behind the wheel, Guider began to flee, refusing commands from two different officers to stop.

Officer McCarty then jumps on the hood of the car, with weapon drawn. He continued to tell Guider to "Stop the car, man!" Instead, Guider would reach 60 miles per hour during a chase that lasted less than one minute, all of it with McCarty hanging onto the top of the vehicle.

The car Guider was driving would end up striking a culvert, throwing McCarty off to the side. According to Police Activity, McCarty suffered a broken vertebra in his back in the incident. He was treated and released at an area hospital.

Guider stole a vehicle later in the day and was eventually arrested in Chicago Heights, Illinois. According to KCCI, Guider pleaded guilty to Serious Injury by Vehicle in March of 2023. He has been sentenced to up to five years in prison.
