Is Iowa or Illinois The Most Haunted State in America?
If you live in Iowa, you might have a better chance of seeing a cow than a ghost. A new study looked at ghost sightings across North America and found that some states are much spookier than others. The results show that Iowa might actually be one of the least haunted places around.
When browsing through the new ghost-sighting statistics compiled by Ghosts of America and social-media reports, one thing stands out: not all states are equally spooked. According to the analysis on the site of Casino.ca, overall there are “about 2,329 ghost sightings per 10,000 people, meaning a 23.29% chance of running into a spirit.” But some states fall far below that figure — and if you live in Iowa or Illinois, the chilling truth might actually be a comfort.
Fewer Ghosts in Iowa
While some states like New York and California are packed with ghost stories, Iowa doesn’t seem to have nearly as many. Researchers looked at reports of haunted places and found that Iowa had far fewer sightings than most other states. That means if you live here, you probably don’t need to worry about things going bump in the night.
Illinois Is a Bit Spookier
Our neighbors in Illinois can’t say the same. Illinois has a lot of old buildings, historic towns, and ghost legends that keep things interesting. From haunted hotels to creepy cemeteries, Illinois has earned a reputation as one of the more haunted spots in the Midwest. But Iowa? It’s pretty quiet when it comes to paranormal activity.
What This Means for You
If you’re an Iowan, this might be great news — fewer ghosts mean more peaceful nights! But if you like scary stories, don’t worry. Iowa still has a few haunted houses and spooky spots to explore, especially around Halloween. You’ll just have to look a little harder to find them.
So, while other states might be full of ghost tales and haunted tours, Iowa keeps it calm. It turns out, being one of the least haunted states might just make it one of the nicest places to live.
