Iowa Parents Beware, These Are The Brain Rot Words You Need To Know In 2025
Every generation will use words differently. Why "groovy" and "far out" in the 60s? We had "radical" and "cowabunga" in the 90s thanks to things like TMNT and the Simpsons. If you are now old and out of touch but have kids in the house, there is an entirely new language they are speaking that you need to learn.
Most of it is harmless, but some can be mean.
The "Brain Rot" Words Of 2025
First off, why are they called "Brain Rot"? Basically the words are so dumb that the kids are calling them brain rot words cause when kids use them it sounds like their brain is rotten. So of course, they will use them.
Rizz
If somebody has "rizz" that is the new way of saying they have game to pick someone up. If they have high and consistent "rizz" that person is known as a "Rizzler".
Gyatt
If a kid says you have a nice "Gyatt"...they are talking about your butt.
Sigma
This one actually makes sense. A Sigma is a lone wolf type. Someone who doesn't need anybody else in their life.
Alpha
Again, this one makes sense. Kids are using Alpha the way it should be used. They are using it to describe leaders. There are no tricks on this one.
Queso
If you hear your kid saying a person is Queso it doesn't mean they have a lot of cheese. It means they are calling that person fat.
Ohio
Yes, Ohio, like the state. Kids are using it to describe something that is "crazy or strange".
Mogging and Moggers
"Looking superior to the person next to you and mogs those around them."
Glazing
No, glazing is not about making or eating donuts. That will get you so queso. Glazing is giving someone an extreme number of compliments that make it becomes overbearing.
Skibidi
The one that really started my investigation was when I heard my child say "Skibidi". This one basically means something is bad. Like when your kids find out you know all these words they will say "That's so skibidi."
There are more you can read about at voyager-online.org, or probably in your kid's text messages.
Parents, just remember: the faster we learn them, the faster they will change. And if we use them around our kids once, they will instantly stop using them. Then we'll need to learn whatever they come up with next.
