Arrest Made In Glenview Middle School Social Media Threat
One person has been arrested in connection to a social media threat.
According to a release from the East Moline Police Department, authorities have arrested a 12-year-old boy after a threat made on TikTok. The threat implied that there would simply "violence" at Glenview Middle School on September 10th.
An investigation immediately began into it and ultimately showed that the 12-year-old was behind it and he is a student at Glenview.
A search warrant was executed at the boy's home, as were subpoenas for social media records, and other investigative measures. It is not believed that the boy had the intent or the means to actually act on the threat.
On September 9th, the boy was arrested for Disorderly Conduct – Threat of Violence/School (which is a Class 4 Felony). He was taken to Rock Island County Juvenile Intake and was released to a parent on home detention with a GPS monitor, pending the juvenile court proceedings.
In the next step, the case is going to be reviewed by Rock Island County States Attorney Office - Juvenile Division before formal criminal charges are filed. Meanwhile, the East Moline school district is "separately addressing student discipline and threat assessment procedures".
