Politicians Screwed Up Permanent Daylight Saving Time For Wisconsin Again
On November 2, 2025, we'll prepare for another winter as the harsh reality of less sunlight will hit hard. That is when Daylight Saving Time will come to an end. Our body's clock will be thrown off by the sudden change in light from our routine. Pets and children will have their sleep patterns disrupted by a law that is no longer needed in America.
We were so close to getting the madness of changing our clocks to stop with the Sunshine Protection Act of 2025. But incompetent politicians who can't follow simple procedures have again delayed the process.
Daylight Saving Time Is Unhealthy For People And More
Changing our clocks is bad for our health according to Johns Hopkins University.
“The scientific evidence points to acute increases in adverse health consequences from changing the clocks, including heart attack and stroke,” says sleep expert Adam Spira, PhD, MA, a professor in Mental Health.
Studies have also shown an increase in traffic accidents and workplace accidents when clocks change.
Who Still Wants To Change The Clocks Twice A Year?
Polls show around 28% of Americans want to keep changing clocks twice a year. Their arguments include: increased daylight in the evening, energy savings, and having daylight when the buses are picking up children for school.
Another group is AM radio stations. AM radio runs at reduced power during the night. With later sunrises in the winter, these stations would miss out on a big part of reaching the full potential audience of morning drive.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but AM radio is already on life support. This could be the death blow to put many stations with a fraction of the audience as their FM counterparts and streaming services out for good. Coming from somebody who works in the radio industry, that's not a bad thing. Technology changes. Adapt and change with it or get left behind.
AM radio is costly, and outside of major stations in major metropolitan areas, there aren't many left that are dominating the media landscape.
Why The Sunshine Protection Act of 2025 Is Stalled Again
The Sunshine Protection Act of 2025 would allow states to make Daylight Saving Time Permanent. And it was approved by the committee 16-12. Yay! But wait.
According to Radio Ink, committee rules require 15 members to be physically present for a vote. Only 10 were present for the vote, while the other votes all came by proxy.
Maybe they hadn't changed their clocks since March and just slept in. So now, they and we are back to the start of the process.
Whatever the case, we, the hard-working, time-crunched, sleep-deprived Americans, will enjoy all the summer sun we can and know that when November comes, we'll once again get confused by why we are changing the clock on our microwave.
