Snow is on its way and it's going to dump a ton of snow across the Midwest, including across Illinois. Winter Weather Watch alerts have been issued in dozens of counties across the southern half of Illinois, southern Iowa, and a majority of Missouri. Many Missouri counties are also being put under a Winter Weather Advisory.

Right now, some areas of Illinois and Missouri could see anywhere from 6-13 inches of snow. That's how massive this storm could be.

Closer to home, we could see some major snowfall totals but several factors could determine how much snow gets dumped and who gets the bulk of it. When is this storm arriving? Who is for sure getting snow? Are we getting snow in the Quad Cities metro this weekend?

What We Know About This Weekend's Snowstorm

Right now, the timing for this snowstorm is still up in the air, according to the National Weather Service of the Quad Cities.

We know that the snow will definitely impact the southern portion of the listening area in the Quad Cities on Sunday and into Sunday night.

The area with the greatest uncertainty as to how much snow will fall stretches from Eastern Iowa west of Iowa City to into the Chicagoland area near Aurora. That line from the Quad Cities to Chicago is on a sharp gradient edge where a shift in the track of the storm could drastically change how much we get. We do know as you get to southern Iowa and into Missouri and central Illinois, the risk of significant snowfall amounts increases.

The National Weather Service of Des Moines has the Quad Cities area having a 49% chance of snowfall totals being at least 2 inches or more. Our chances of snowfall totals being 6 inches or greater drastically decrease.

The National Weather Service of the Quad Cities says we have about a 26% chance of snow totaling 4 inches or more and also with a sharp drop when it gets to that 6-inch mark.

The Burlington area has a strong chance of getting much more snow than the Quad Cities metro.

Things are definitely still up in the air. We know Missouri and central Illinois will get its fair share of snow this weekend. We might get a little bit, a lot more than we thought, or none at all.

We'll keep you up to date with our awesome weather partner, KWQC, and the storm gets closer to our area.
