My fellow barbecue aficionados, our time has come! Happening on May 26-30th, the Mississippi Valley Fair's 1st Annual Ribfest & BBQ Bash!

Besides a barbecue competition, the Memorial Day weekend event will also have fair food, music, and bounce houses for the kiddles.

Also worth noting, admission is free.

The exact hours of the event are still TBD but we do know the live entertainment will be in the Shed Bar on Saturday and Sunday nights from 8:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Great way to close out the month and celebrate Memorial Day weekend for sure.

The barbecue competition judging will be on Saturday and will feature three categories: ribs, pork, and people's choice. Also, remember that there will be fair food at this too, so you can also get a funnel cake in addition to a rack of ribs.

The lineup of live music hasn't been announced yet, but the fair says it will be soon, so follow their Facebook page to keep an eye on it and other details about the Ribfest as we get closer to time. A good option to keep in your back pocket as you plan your Memorial Day weekend.

If you have more questions about the event, you can reach out to mvfair@mvfair.com.

Personally, being from the river delta right outside of Memphis, I grew up with Memphis-style barbecue, so I'm definitely partial to the sweeter barbecue sauce based in vinegar and tomatoes on my pulled pork sammie. Or the dry rub that features a metric ton of different spices on the ribs. Yum.
