New Animals Are Coming to Niabi Zoo
Niabi Zoo is adding a few new animals according to the Rock Island County Forest Preserve Commission.
Two Bactrian camels which have been at Niabi on loan will soon be purchased along with a pair of badgers. The two-humped camels have been on loan since last year. The male, Raj and female, Fergie will take up permanent residence and zoo staff hope they'll reproduce.
The male and female badgers will be quarantined for 30 days before we can see them. Even though badgers are common to the area, zoo staff say they're rarely seen in the wild. They hope the badgers will have babies too.
The camels will cost about $20,000 to purchase; the badgers price tag is about $6,000.
