No, your street's not flooding from a water main break. That's what I thought this morning when I saw tons of water flowing down my street.

Turns out the city of Rock Island began performing their semi-annual flushing of the fire hydrants on Sunday.

They open the hydrants and let the water through to help keep the lines clear and clean. The result is the possibility for discolored tap water, or low water pressure, but this issues can be cleared up by running the tap and waiting for the flushing to end.

The only kicker to the timing is that hydrants would have been much more fun to splash around in on a hot day in July.
