Everyone Is Freaking Out: Severe Storms Could Hit Quad Cities Tuesday
If you’ve been enjoying the warm spring weather, you might want to keep one eye on the sky because things could turn rough fast.
Forecasters with KWQC are warning that strong to severe storms are expected to move into the Quad Cities area late Monday night into Tuesday, with the potential for multiple rounds of dangerous weather throughout the week.
What to Expect
Tuesday has officially been labeled a First Alert Day, meaning conditions could become hazardous.
The biggest threats include:
- Damaging wind gusts
- Large hail
- Frequent lightning
- Isolated tornadoes (possible)
The KWQC forecast does mention tornadoes as a possibility, but they’re not the main threat.
Storms are expected to develop late Monday night and continue into Tuesday, with another possible round of severe weather arriving on Wednesday.
Why This Week Is Different
Meteorologists say this isn’t just a one-day event. It’s shaping up to be one of the most active weather weeks so far this season. Warm, humid air paired with strong winds in the atmosphere is creating the perfect setup for severe storms.
Temperatures are expected to climb into the 80s before storms hit, adding even more fuel to the system.
Timing Still Uncertain
While confidence is high that storms will develop, the exact timing and track are still being fine-tuned. That means conditions could shift, and additional First Alert Days may be added as the week progresses.
What You Should Do Now
With severe weather possible, now’s the time to prepare:
- Review your severe weather plan
- Make sure weather alerts are turned on
- Know where to go if warnings are issued
After the midweek storms, the Quad Cities could see a short break Thursday, but the active pattern isn’t over. More rain chances return by Friday.
