You'll see Moline Fire Department Local 581 raising money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association at the intersection of 41st Street and Avenue of the Cities Saturday from 8AM - 4PM CT. I hope you'll stuff a buck or two or five in their boot to help them meet or exceed the $6,000 goal they've pledged to give to the MDA this year.

The money raised by the firefighters will help the MDA with research, education and sending local kids to Camp Courageous. Firefighter Paramedic Cole Nicely-Green says Moline Fire feels an obliged to help kids in our community. This is one way Moline Fire is doing that.

Sending one child to Camp Courageous costs $2,000 for a week, with $650 of that going to medical supplies for the camper while he or she is away from home. Camp Courageous gives kids an opportunity to play with other children with their same abilities. The week of swimming and playing also lets them forget about some of their day to day hardships.

According to the MDA, firefighters have been filling the boot and supporting the group since 1954.
