How This Town Got Its Names
According to 'Only In Your State' the history behind the wild name of "Ixonia" has a long history that goes back to the 1800s.
In 1846, a town called Union went through something of a breakup and was organized into two separate towns. Residents agreed that the first would be called Concord, but they could not agree on the second name. So, they literally picked some letters at random and arranged them until they had something approximating a town name. Ixonia was born.
So the name "Ixonia" was the result of a messy town breakup, and people not being able to decide on an official name. Put some random letters together and you get "Ixonia"
This proud farming town has a unique name that has caught the eyes of countless travelers throughout Wisconsin and the Midwest. I too look forward to "Ixonia" just so I can ask them how they pronounce the town name.
