This One-Way Incident In Davenport Was Stressful
Yesterday I almost saw an accident as someone was going the wrong way down a one-way here in Davenport. While I could make fun of this person I have to remember that this has happened to me as well. (not nearly as bad as this, but still.)
I was frustrated since this lady was going pretty fast, and then finally stopped when she realized her mistake BUT SHE JUST STAYED THERE FOR 5 MINUTES. In my opinion, it took her way too long to turn around and fix her mistake.
The Time I Messed Up A One-Way
When I was 16 I went the wrong way on a one-way in Iowa city. It was only for a second, and I turned off quickly, but it was a very scary few seconds. Many of us have made the mistake of going the wrong way on a one way in a new area. Today's incident really got me thinking about one-ways.
I have come to realize I kinda hate one-way streets. I understand why and how they are helpful:
Why are One-Way Roads Important? One-way roads keep traffic flowing in one direction and offer improved signal timing. Often seen in heavily congested, downtown areas, these streets are known to reduce pedestrian accidents.

But Do We Need Them?
Ourquadcities recently reported how the mayor, Mike Matson showed support behind converting two one-way streets to two-way traffic.
The Davenport City Council could decide soon whether 3rd and 4th streets in downtown will change from one-way to two-way traffic. The streets have bee one-way since 1954.
We wouldn't be the first to do this either.
Kyle Carter, of the Downtown Development Partnership, said in recent years 78 cities across the United States have successfully converted one-way streets to two-ways.
Personally, I have mixed feelings about one-ways but again can see why they are important like on Welcomeway and Brady street. Still, these close calls make me a bit nervous about one-ways. Thankfully in this incident, no one was hurt, and the lady pulled a U turn.
What Do You Think?
Obviously, One Ways offer an ability for cars to go faster, cause less traffic, and offer other benefits, but there are also downsides too. What do you think? Let us know on the APP.
