There is a new way to foster animals in the Quad Cites.

The Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center is looking for volunteers to foster animals! Shelters get overcrowded really easily, so they rely on community volunteers to devote their time and energy to taking care of animals until they are prepared to be adopted into their forever homes.

Normal Fostering

Animals may be placed in foster homes for a variety of reasons such as having illnesses, being too young to adopt, etc. and can spend anywhere from a few days to a few months in your home as your foster friend. The shelter provides you with all the resources you will need so there are no out of pocket expenses (unless you want to splurge on treats for Fido). The two foster programs offered by the shelter are the “Itty Bitty Kitty Committee” and the “Cute Cuddly Canine Club” so whether you’re a dog person or a cat person, they’ve got you covered.

If you would like more information about fostering you can contact the Quad City Animal Welfare Center at 309-787-6830. You can also email Amber, the Cat Care Manager at amber@qcawc.org or Shayenne, the Dog Care Manager at shayenne@qcawc.org. You will also need to fill out and submit the QCAWC Foster Application to get approved before you are granted a foster animal.

Virtual Fostering

A lot of people are ill-equipped to take in an animal, and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s a lot of responsibility! Maybe you work long hours, maybe you’re allergic to pet dander, or maybe your tiny shoebox sized apartment just isn’t realistic for pets. Whatever the reasoning is, there is another option. The Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center has a virtual fostering program!

Even though it’s not the same as having a furry friend to foster, the end goal is still the same even when done virtually, which is to get the pets to their forever homes. By being a virtual foster, you help spread the word about all the animals patiently waiting at the shelter for their new families to come adopt them. It’s super simple too! All you have to do is go to the Quad Cities Animal Welfare Center Facebook page.
