Over the past few months, we have seen the demolition of the Hotel Davenport in the Quad Cities. After the hotel was declared unsuitable for use many were interested to see what would take the place of this old hotel after the lot was cleared.

It was scheduled for demolition earlier this year after city officials issued notices to the owner of the hotel stating that the building would either need to be rehabbed or demolished.

According to the QC Times, this site qualifies for the city of Davenport's 'Urban Revitalization Tax Exemption Program.' In short, this program seeks to encourage private investment in select areas of the city by stopping higher property taxes.

The property is zoned C2 commercial, which allows for a host of commercial, retail, office and residential uses, such as drive-thru and other restaurants, condos, apartments, townhouses, bar, microbrewery, shops and more.

Just down the street from this site on Brady Street and Welcome Way at the location of the former Chi Chi's restaurant, has the construction of the new Davenport fire station. These new revocations have many in the area excited to see what the next few years bring for Davenport.

This hotel has been vacant for about three years now and takes up a whole 8 acres of land in some prime areas along 53rd Street, between Brady Street and Welcome Way. Hopefully, new commercial ideas can come from this area.

We will again mos likely see retail, office, restaurants including drive-thru, condos, apartments, townhouses, bars, microbrewery, and or shops in this area. This however won't happen until the lot is completely cleared, so we won't be seeing anything too soon.

Hotel Davenport Demolition

The Hotel Davenport is located at 5202 Brady St. and was reportedly built in the early 1970s. Earlier this year it was decided that this hotel was no longer set to have guests.

According to the Quad Cities times, the Davenport hotel has faced a number of fires, along with safety and health code violations. This has led to the call for its demolition. I've driven past it many times and have seen that the building had clearly began to deteriorate.

It was scheduled for demolition earlier this year, and said demolition began in April. Many involved in this project are excited to see what the future holds for this lot in Davenport.

I drive past this spot every day for work, and over the last month have snagged some pictures of the demolition.
