Baby Giraffe in Iowa Has a Name
The newest baby giraffe in Iowa has a name.
Voting was open to the public and KIIK 104.9 listeners were invited to help decide from these three options: Mosi, Raza and Ikemba.
The Blank Park Zoo announced the male giraffe calf, born on January 18, will be named ‘Raza,’ which means hope.
According to Blank Park Zoo staff, thousands of votes were cast and Raza won with nearly 45 percent of the vote.
“We are excited that our new baby has a name and we are excited for our community to see him,” said Anne Shimerdla, president and CEO of Blank Park Zoo. “We are now able to offer some limited viewing opportunities.”
The limited viewing opportunities started yesterday and continue through the weekend.
Raza will even have a chance to predict the winner of the Super Bowl on Friday. Not sure exactly how, but we can follow the zoo’s social media here.
