The Western Illinois University freshman accused of shooting his roommate Tuesday night made his first court appearance Thursday.

18 year old Kavion Poplous appeared in Cook County Court, where his bond was set at $1-million dollars.

Poplous has been charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Poplous is alleged to have shot his roommate in Thompson Hall as the result of a dispute between the two.

Poplous fled the WIU campus after the shooting, turning himself in to police in Chicago Wednesday afternoon.

The shooting victim was first taken to McDonough District Hospital, then transferred to another hospital where he underwent surgery. No word on his condition.
