Here’s How To Stay Cool in the QC This Weekend
Hot temperatures are expected this weekend in the Quad Cities. Local 4 News Meteorologist Ashe Simpson's forecast calls for the Heat Index to hit triple digits over the weekend. Here are some tips to keep yourself cool:
- If you run, walk or generally exercise outside Medicinenet.com suggests altering the time you exercise. They suggest doing it in the early morning hours or later in the evening when it's cooler outside. If you can't change the time they suggest doing a lighter work out!
- Greatest.com has some suggestions to beat the heat in your home. Especially when you're trying to sleep. One of their suggestions is to eat lighter and less. They also suggest firing up the grill vs. heating up your house by using the oven and stove.
- Reader's Digest suggests brewing a pot of peppermint tea. Cool it off in the fridge. Then put it in a spray bottle and mist yourself with it. They say the menthol in the tea will cool you down and leave you with a tingling sensation on your skin. They also suggest cooling your mattress by placing ice packs underneath your sheets to cool down your bed.
Each of these links above has other great ideas on how you can keep cool when the temperatures soar. There's also one obvious thing we should all do. Drink more water. The CDC says we should think of our body as an air conditioner. When we exercise or it gets hot, we sweat. As the sweat evaporates it cools us down. All that sweat depletes our body of liquid which needs to be replenished. Learn more about keeping cool from the CDC here.
