It might be a slippery ride home from work this evening, and possibly not much better heading into work tomorrow morning. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory through 9AM CST tomorrow, January 15.

According to the National Weather Service freezing drizzle will spread across the area this afternoon and evening, and there's a good chance patchy freezing drizzle will continue into Tuesday Morning. With temperatures sitting in the 20's today this will cause hazardous conditions on roads and sidewalks. Additionally, untreated roads, bridges and overpasses are expected to be especially hazardous.

This winter weather advisory includes all of the Quad Cities as well as Marengo, Iowa City, Tipton, Clinton, Muscatine, Sigourney, Washington, Wapello, Sterling, Geneseso, Princeton, Hennepin and Aledo.

Here's s some tips for driving on icy pavement from icyroadsafety.com:

  • If you don't have to drive, don't. If you can avoid streets, bridges, etc. that haven't been treated and are slick do that.
  • Slow down. 45mph max for driving in icy conditions. That said, many times that's too fast for icy conditions. If you're car is slipping or fishtailing you're driving too fast.
  • Go easy on the brakes. Braking can trigger a slide and a loss of control of the car.
  • Icy road accidents happen in bunches. If you're in an accident, your accident may not be the biggest threat to you. Keep alert for other issues.
