Welcome to March! Spring will soon be here and this month, women are being put in the spotlight for "Women's History Month". We all know they deserve to be celebrated every month, and a new survey shows that here in Iowa, they are taking care of business for their families, workplaces, communities, and themselves in major ways compared to other states.

Our friends at WalletHub dove in to check out where each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia ranks among the "Best States for Women", and Iowa did exceptionally well! According to WalletHub:

In order to identify the best and worst states for women, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across two key dimensions, “Women’s Economic & Social Well-Being” and “Women’s Health & Safety.”

They then determined each state and the District’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order the states

Nationwide, women make up 51 percent of the population but only 24 percent of the Senate and 27 percent of the House of Representatives, so there is a long way to go politically but here in Iowa there is some good news, we do rank 6th overall in this survey.

Other states in the Midwest did pretty well too, in fact, Minnesota was #1, North Dakota 4th, Wisconsin 9th, South Dakota 10th, Nebraska 23rd, Illinois 25th, and Missouri 27th.

Ahead of us overall in the Top 5 were Minnesota, Maine, Vermont, North Dakota and D.C.
