Viral Rom Com Book Filming Movie Adaptation In Cute Chicagoland Suburb
BookTok devotees are having a field day.
Better Than The Movies is a young-adult novel that's gone viral on TikTok (specifically the readers in the 'BookTok' corner) and it's getting the movie adaptation treatment.
The book follows Liz, a rom-com obsessed teenager, who teams up with her frenemy neighbor Wes in an effort to win over her childhood crush, Michael. As you can probably guess, Liz and Wes end up developing feelings.
But the story is going to be set in St. Charles, outside of Chicago. Specifically, film crews were seen at Town House Books and Cafe, which looks like it's straight out of a rom-com.
Filming for it started in Chicago on September 3rd. It was concealed under the production name 'Big Red'. Multiple movies have been filmed in St. Charles, Illinois in years past, including "The Killer", "Munger Road", "Bad Boys", and "Coach Of The Year".
Better Than The Movies is a New York Times bestselling novel that gained a lot of popularity thanks to reviews on both BookTok and Bookstagram in 2022. It spent over 40 months on the New York Times Young Adult Paperback Best Seller List.
"Better Than The Movies" is set to hit Netflix next year. The movie stars Beatrice Kitsos as Liz and David Iacono as Wes. It's directed by Julia Hart.
Netflix says it's going to be a "love letter to romantic comedies". It features some classic tropes: fake relationship, enemies to lovers, and boy next door. While it's romantic, it's not spicy at all.
There's no word on the movie's exact release date on Netflix.
