Keeping Kids Safe On Halloween Is Everyone’s Job

Here's a scary statistic. Children are more than twice as likely to be hit by a car and killed on Halloween than any other day of the year. There's things we can all do to keep kids trick or treating safe on Halloween.

When it comes to costumes parents should avoid costumes that require their child to wear a mask. They tend to obscure vision. Second if your kids are going to be out after dark, fasten reflective tape to their costume and bags. You can also give them a glow stick.

While trick or treating smaller children should always be accompanied by a responsible adult. Both kids and adults should put their personal electronics down and keep their heads up. Be aware of the surroundings. Kids should also walk across the street, don't run.

Those driving should watch for children walking in medians, on curbs, and roadways. Pay careful attention pulling into and out of driveways. New inexperienced drivers may want to not drive during trick or treating.
