Water Main Break Shuts Down Southbound 18th Street in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Drivers urged to use detours while crews work to repair damaged line
Southbound Lanes Closed Between Middle Road and Parkway Drive
A water main break has forced the closure of southbound 18th Street between Middle Road and Parkway Drive, city officials confirmed Thursday morning.
As of 7:11 a.m., traffic heading south is being rerouted onto 23rd Street and Central Avenue before reconnecting with 18th Street. Northbound lanes remain open to traffic.
What Caused the Closure?
A water main break happens when an underground pipe that carries water to homes and businesses cracks or bursts. This can occur due to aging infrastructure, ground movement, or rapid temperature changes. When it happens, water can flood streets, damage pavement, and interrupt water service in nearby areas.
City crews are currently on-site working to repair the break and restore normal traffic flow. It’s unclear how long the closure will last, but officials are asking drivers to plan ahead and use alternate routes.
City Officials Monitoring the Situation
Public works crews are assessing the damage and will continue repairs throughout the day. Residents may notice reduced water pressure or slight discoloration in the area until the issue is resolved.
Drivers are encouraged to follow posted detours and avoid the affected section of 18th Street until further notice.
