Waterloo's new Lost Island theme park is gearing up for its grand opening happening this weekend.

On June 18, the theme park will open. The amusement park is themed with each area representing a natural element (or "realms"): Mura is fire, Awa is water, Udara is air, Yuta is earth, Tamariki is spirit.

It's a dream 15 years in the making for owner Gary Bertch, who also owns the Lost Island Waterpark, which was rated 2nd in the nation by USA Today for 2022.

Bertch told KWWL:

I’m not sure we could’ve picked a worse time to building as far as the inflation aspect of it goes but once we had started we were committed and have to follow through. To provide somewhere where you can spend time with your kids, and your kids grow up, and they grow up awfully fast so having the opportunity to spend time together as a family that was important for us.

Bertch says that there's a variety of rides besides just the rollercoasters. You can check out the rides in each realm here.

The new theme park will be open from 10:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. on Saturday and will have those same hours every day. The Lost Island Waterpark will be open from 10:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

You can get tickets at the gate and they're $52 for ages 4+ and kids 3 and under are free. A park hopper pass for both the waterpark and theme park is $55 for adults and kiddos. For more details on tickets to the theme park, check them out here.
