A week ago Walmart made the announcement they would close for the holiday because of the 'unusual year.'

Target opened on Thanksgiving for the first time back in 2011as other big retailers paved the way to an early Black Friday sales event.

According to a WQAD article, Target announced they would close stores on Thanksgiving day to give their employees time to be with family and 'celebrate the holiday safely.'

I'm sure some shoppers won't like the change. I never really understood shopping on Thanksgiving. I always thought it was fun to look at the ads in the paper to plan a shopping trip the next day. We'll have to see if the decision pays off.
