Support Tomorrow’s Stars Acting at St. Ambrose Today
This fall you should make it a point to see a show at St. Ambrose. Either one of the big productions on the Galvin Fine Arts Center main stage; or one of the smaller productions in the SAU Studio Theatre. Why? You might be witnessing one of the first performances from a future Broadway or Hollywood Star.
Regardless of the career trajectories of any of the actors, performers or crew; showing up and having them perform to a packed house is a thrill for all involved in putting on a show. While I never set foot on my alma mater's stage, I did spend a few years working with a theater group. Simply, the more butts in the seats the more exciting it was for everyone from the star of the show to the guy working the lights.
As a theater goer you get to see some great live performances for a reasonable price. Each year the St. Ambrose Theatre Department produces six main stage shows and two Studio Theatre shows. Here's what they're offering this fall:
- "Rabbit Hole" by David Lindsay-Abaire in the Studio Theater. "Becca and Howie Corbett have a picture-perfect family life in the suburbs of New York until a random, tragic accident takes the life of their four-year old son." This production with adult themes and situations runs September 6, 7 and 8. Tickets are $6 Dollars.
- "Paris En Pointe" Journey back to Paris during the time when composers and visual artists changed the world with their works. Ballet Quad Cities and the St. Ambrose Music Department partner with the Figge Art Museum to bring you this production. This show runs September 15 and 16. Tickets are $15-$25.
- Neil Simon's "Rumors"; "A mad cap, slamming door farce set in a large home outside New York in the late 80's." This production runs October 5, 6 and 7. No ticket price info is currently available.
