Bettendorf Middle School Students Help QC Homeless
Sue Owen is a special person and so are her Bettendorf Middle School students. When they learned homeless people in the Quad Cities needed clean socks, they wanted to help.
According to a QC Times article, students Anika, Mary and Annabelle Donohoo, 11 launched a sock drive at their school. Their goal is to collect 1000 pairs to donate to Humility of Mary Shelter in Davenport. So far over 200 pairs have been collected and they could use our help.
The project came about as part of the school's project-based learning on homelessness. Mrs. Owen challenged her students to think about what it might be like to walk a mile in someone else's shoes. Students are taking that question seriously.
On Monday, Dec. 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. students will explain their project to members of the public who stop by. Socks can also be donated at that time. If you'd like to help, socks can be donated at Bettendorf Middle School during regular school hours or you can contact Christine Adamson at Humility of Mary Shelter.
