Iowa Animal Rescue Doesn’t Give Up, Rescues 3-Legged Dog After 8 Months [PHOTOS]
This is one of the most wonderful cases of, pardon the pun, doggone tremendous dedication you've ever heard.
Let's start by telling you there's likely never been a dog that deserved all the hard work that went into finally catching him, after an amazing 246 days on the run.
His name is Kinnick, and he's from Iowa City, Iowa. As you saw in the title of this story, Kinnick has only three legs. Paws of Hope Animal Rescue says it believes he was rescued from a situation where he may have been a bait dog, hence he only has three legs.
In late August of last year, just two weeks after he'd been adopted by a loving new family, his owner Anabelle had Kinnick out for a walk when something scared him. He pulled the leash out of her hand and was gone. No one knows what happened to that leash, but someone had got it loose over the lengthy period of time he was gone.
Since the day he disappeared, Kinnick's family and the team at Paws of Hope Animal Rescue have been searching for him. As you might imagine, catching Kinnick wasn't easy. He doesn't trust other dogs or strangers, because of his past. Cameras were placed, and traps were set to catch him with plenty of dog food, steak, chicken, and even roast to entice him. When it came to food, Kinnick preferred to eat bowls set out for other wildlife.
He had what I'm sure were some scary encounters.
And those traps did catch some other things, like a raccoon.
And perhaps a deer.
Then, on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 at 3:04 a.m., Kinnick was finally rescued from his life on the run.
Congratulations to everyone with Paws of Hope Animal Rescue and Kinnick's family. You can tell how happy he is to be back with the ones that love him.
