Lost Dog Missing for a Year Reunited With His Texas Family in Scott County

Coco, a dog who disappeared from his family in San Antonio, Texas, one year ago, has finally made it home.

Missing Dog From Texas Found in Iowa

Coco was recently found running loose in Scott County, Iowa, by a Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy. He was brought to the Humane Society of Scott County, where staff scanned his microchip to see if they could track down his family.

What they discovered was incredible. Coco’s microchip was still connected to his family in Texas.

Microchip Helped Bring Coco Home

The Humane Society says they often find that pet owners move and simply forget to update their contact information. But that wasn't the case with Coco.

His family was shocked and overjoyed to learn that their dog, who had been missing for an entire year, had somehow made his way from Texas to Iowa.

Coco’s family immediately began the long drive from Texas to Scott County to pick him up.

A Happy Ending for a Lost Pet

When Coco finally saw his family again, it was a reunion filled with happiness. After a year apart, he was finally back where he belonged.

The Humane Society of Scott County is using Coco’s story to remind pet owners just how important microchipping your dog or cat can be.

If you live in Scott County and your pet isn't microchipped, the shelter is offering FREE microchips by appointment. Free microchips will also be available at the shelter's next vaccine and microchip clinic on October 20 from 5 to 7 p.m.
