Those Stickers On Your Car Are Illegal Now In Iowa

The panic when you see the flashing red and blue lights behind you.  What did you do wrong? Why is the police officer from Iowa pulling you over?  So many things running through your head.

If you have a hard time seeing the red and blue lights behind you, that might be the reason you are getting pulled over.  Don't give them a reason to get pulled over and get a ticket, and you won't get pulled over and get a ticket.

Iowa Police Can Pull You Over For Stickers On Your Car Windows

As a radio station, we want you to display stickers on your car of us...your favorite radio station.  But you have to be careful where you put them.

According to Iowa law 321.438, "A person shall not drive a motor vehicle equipped with a windshield, sidewings, or side or rear windows which do not permit clear vision."

In other words, if you have a giant Hawkeye on your back windshield, it might look cool, but it could be the reason officers pull you over.  If you get one of the window decals that are transparent from the inside, then you are going to be fine.  However, how can the police know that from the outside until they pull you over?

The same goes for window tint.  They can guess the percentage of darkness, but until they pull you over and actually measure it, it's still there as a way to get you pulled over.

How Much Is That Sticker Going To Cost You In Iowa?

To be fair, having talked to a few officers, they more than likely will not pull you over for this level of obstructed view.  But, if they notice any erratic driving or suspect you of anything else, it can be a way for them to reasonably pull you over.

In Iowa, an obstructed view driving violation is classified as a simple misdemeanor, which can come with a fine of $105 to $855.

Not the way you want to spend your hard-earned money.  So next time you think about adding a sticker to tell the person behind or on the side of you what you think, you might want to be sure it's on the car and not on the window.
