Having lived just off 18th Avenue in Rock Island for 17 years now, I can tell you a good stretch of it is in need of repair.

Rock Island will begin the process of rebuilding 18th Avenue on August 27th when a stretch from 17th Street to 21st Street closes for what they hope is five days.

On September 4th, a second phase of work beings on the north side of 18th Avenue between 21st and 30th Streets, and between 39th and 46th Streets. During Phase 2, only one lane of traffic will be open, with flaggers allowing traffic through in each direction for limited amounts of time.

Phase 2 is apt to cause the most havoc for patents picking up and dropping off students at Washington and Denkmann schools as it is slated to last for a couple of months.
