If you spot a coyote in the woods or a field that is pretty normal. Seeing one on your ring camera at night, becoming more normal. But, having a coyote run through an entire neighborhood in the middle of a city during broad daylight is not as normal.
In the video below you can see one aggressive coyote putting itself on the line as it runs through an Iowa town.
Coyote Are Becoming More Common In Iowa
There are an estimated 12,000 coyotes in Iowa. The majority of them are in Western Iowa. But, as their natural habitat becomes human habitat they continue to spread to more parts of the state and more cities.
While coyotes are typically not dangerous to humans they will attack big and small if they feel cornered and threatened. The biggest threat for coyotes is actually other pets. Your little puppy or kittie would be a target for the top predator in Iowa
People can hunt and shoot coyotes year-round in Iowa. There are restrictions and of course, you need a hunting license.
Coyote Are Hungry And Looking For Food
Have you been outside lately? Everything is covered with snow and it's cold. Very, very cold. So coyotes are going to be more aggressive in finding food even if that means leaving the woods or corn field and coming to the city for a quick snack of rabbit, squirrel, your pet, or in really desperate cases your roast in the garbage that you burnt.
This one was spotted near 18th/Barcelona/Heather Glen in Bettendorf, Iowa. For those not from the area, here is where that is.
As urban areas expand and coyotes continue to expand you can expect to see more in an Iowa neighborhood near you as well.
