Cute pupils running down the hall at the elementary school

Kids are returning back to school and it's very important to parents to have their children attend the right school, especially at an early age. Those early childhood years are extremely important. The unfortunate part is that not all states have the best early education systems. Luckily for parents in the Quad Cities, both states have early education systems that are ranked in the top 20.

KIIK 104.9 is committed to helping students and their parents go back to school. That's why we've teamed up with IHMVCU to create our back to school survival guide. This article should give parents of kids going into early education systems some confidence and reassurance.

WalletHub conducted a survey to figure out how states ranked when it came to early education. In order to determine the best and worst states for early education systems, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key dimensions:

  • Access
  • Quality
  • Resources & Economic Support

WalletHub then evaluated those dimensions using 12 relevant metrics with their corresponding weights. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the highest quality of early education. Finally, WalletHub determined each state and the District’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample.

Here is what they found:

WalletHub found that Washington D.C. ranked 1st overall. Indiana is the worst state for early education.

How did Iowa and Illinois do?

WalletHub found that Illinois ranked 12th overall. Illinois' 'Access' Rank is 3, their 'Quality' Rank is 42, and their 'Resource & Economic Support' Rank is 28. The Iowa side of the QC ranked 20th overall. Iowa's 'Access' Rank is 8, their 'Quality' Rank is 36, and their 'Resource & Economic Support' Rank is 31.
